Project: Hachette – Science Makers

Hachette UK is one of the largest and most influential book publishing groups in the UK. Known for its creative and innovative approach to publishing, it boasts a rich history and an extensive portfolio, which includes 12 autonomous publishing divisions and more than 60 imprints. Their diverse collection of authors spans a wide range of genres, from fiction and non-fiction to educational and children’s books. Hachette UK is also a market leader in the e-book industry and has a growing presence in audiobook publishing, which is the fastest-expanding sector in the business. The company is part of Hachette Livre, one of the world’s largest publishing conglomerates, with subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand, and India.

I was commissioned to design a series of engaging science books called ‘Science Makers’ aimed at children passionate about creating homemade experiments. The project began with the development of the brand identity, including the logo and overall artistic direction, ensuring a fun and educational appeal. Following this, I designed the layouts for the entire series, meticulously crafted the experiments, and even handled the photography, capturing each step and outcome. This hands-on approach allowed me to deliver a comprehensive and cohesive product, blending creative design with informative content. The books aimed to inspire young minds, encouraging them to explore the wonders of science through practical, DIY activities.
