Project Notes: Bram Stoker Fest
The Bram Stoker Festival is an electrifying celebration of one of Ireland’s most revered and legendary authors. Taking place annually on the last weekend of October, this horror-infused event transforms Dublin into a bustling hub of Gothic spectacle, drawing performers, authors, and fans from around the globe. It’s a weekend where the city embraces its darker side, celebrating the rich legacy of Bram Stoker and his unparalleled contribution to Gothic literature.
Since its inception, the festival has presented an impressive array of Gothic-inspired productions. Audiences have been spellbound by dramatic outdoor spectacles, enraptured by haunting choral performances in shadowy libraries, and treated to opulent feasts in sacred crypts. From immersive theatre to critically acclaimed plays, the festival offers something for everyone who delights in the macabre. Each production is meticulously crafted, drawing deeply from Stoker’s iconic works and the themes of his era. The organisers’ talent for transforming Dublin’s most recognisable landmarks into supernatural, Victorian-inspired settings brings the festival to life in a way that feels as though it has leapt straight from the pages of Dracula.
In 2017, I had the privilege of contributing to this unique festival by creating marketing materials for one of its standout live music events, Turning Vampire Mixtape. This spellbinding show featured renowned artists such as Lisa Hannigan and Kier, blending music with the festival’s signature Gothic flair. My role involved producing both print and digital artwork for the event’s marketing campaigns, ensuring the visuals captured the hauntingly atmospheric tone of the performance while appealing to the festival’s diverse audience.
The Bram Stoker Festival continues to be a cornerstone of Dublin’s cultural calendar, offering a mesmerising blend of Gothic storytelling, artistic innovation, and unforgettable experiences. It’s an event that invites everyone to step into the shadowy, thrilling world of Bram Stoker and the enduring legacy of his dark imagination.
